Simran Baidwan (BComm ’23) – AON insurance

My journey at Haskayne was nothing short of transformative, and I credit the Risk Management, Insurance, and Finance program for laying the foundation. The tailored approach of the programs sets it apart. The curriculum not only provided me with excellent education on relevant topics but also opened doors to unparalleled opportunities for industry connections. The emphasis on networking was a game changer for me.

One of the highlights of my time at Haskayne was the chance to attend conferences like RIMS Risk World. These experiences not only broadened my understanding of the field but also helped me shape my career goals. The exposure to real world scenarios and industry leaders gave me a clear sense of direction, leading to a successful career start at Aon even before graduation.

A big thank you to the faculty and professors for their support. The accessibility and willingness to connect me with their networks showcased a genuine commitment to my success. My involvement as an Executive Member on ARMI was one of the best experiences of my undergraduate. I highly recommend joining student-led clubs like ARMI to anyone seeking a more enriched university experience. The insights you gain is invaluable. I continue to contribute as the Alumni Chair, inspired by the support I received during my four years.

I am so happy I chose this program. It not only equipped me with the knowledge and skills needed for the industry but also instilled in me a sense of community and a commitment to continuous growth.

Andrew J. Barker (BComm ’10) – Iridium Risk Services

The Risk Management & Insurance program at Haskayne set me up for success from the very first day that I transferred into the concentration. The classroom sessions, guest speakers, access to industry events and most importantly, the faculty’s close relationship to the “who’s who” of the industry as well as the William H. McGannon Foundation, were all instrumental in me successfully securing a position with Iridium Risk Services prior to my graduation in 2010. I cannot thank the faculty, staff and all those who support the RMIN program enough!

Aima Oseni-Elamah (BComm ’23) – Gallagher Energy Risk Services

Making the decision to switch to the RMIN program was one of the best choices I ever made during my undergraduate years. Not only did the concentration provide me with valuable knowledge relevant to daily life, but the program also had a strong focus on preparing students for life beyond the degree. The faculty members went above and beyond to be more than just lecturers; they were truly dedicated to seeing all students in this concentration thrive and flourish.
This program offered numerous learning experiences beyond the classroom, helping us develop key skills that set us up for our careers. The program’s strong connections to its alumni and industry professionals is one thing that truly stands out about it. As a student, you get the opportunity to meet and interact with these individuals, who will one day become your colleagues. Building meaningful connections with them is crucial, and these relationships can prove to be extremely valuable down the line.
I am certain that without this program, I would not be in the position I am today. I am forever thankful for that seemingly small decision I made a while back to sign up for the introductory RMIN class, which has now changed the entire trajectory of my career.

Nick Roper (BComm ’05) – Roper Valuation & Insurance Advisors Ltd.

“The education I obtained from the Risk Management & Insurance program at Haskayne gave me the foundation for an exciting and challenging career. The quality of my education was apparent from day 1. After graduating from Haskayne I was able to land a job in London, England with an international consulting firm. On my first day we flew to Milan, Italy to meet with a large Oil & Gas contractor. I have always remembered that while I was sitting in their board room with their risk management team, I realized that the knowledge and experience I gained in the RMIN program was immediately applicable and relevant. I have continued to build on this foundation ever since.

I’m proud to be part of an industry that is never ending in terms of the breadth of exciting opportunities and experiences available - not to mention the community of great professionals involved. The RMIN program was a great launching pad for my career and I’d recommend it to anyone!”
